Manchester City beat Burnley 3-0 in Friday’s opening fixture of the 2023-24 English Premier League at Turf Moor.
Striker Erling Haaland scored in the fourth and 36th minute before Rodri completed the scoreline in the 75th.
What Erling Haaland said about Manchester City win
“It was important to start like this,” said Haaland.
“A tricky fixture, away, against a newly promoted team and everything, so it was fantastic to start with three points.
“I don’t think too much about this – early goals. The main thing is to play good as a team and to get the three points.
“That’s exactly what we did throughout the whole game. It was a good start.
“We have to try to still play the football we did last year. And to keep on building what we did last year because it was something truly special what we achieved.”
Haaland was the leading goal-scorer in the 2022-23 English Premier League, when Manchester City successfully defended the title. They are aslo the reigning FA Cup and UEFA Champions League title holders.
“We are treble winners so people want to beat us even more. We are used to it and we will do our best to defend everything we can,” added Haaland.
Kevin De Bruyne injury
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, meanwhile, has confirmed midfielder Kevin de Bruyne has been sidelined by a hamstring injury sustained during the fixture against Burnley.
“He was injured again unfortunately,” Guardiola told BBC Match of the Day.
“It is the same place and position as the Champions League final and he will be out for a while.”
