Chelsea beat Luton Town 3-0 in this week’s English Premier League fixture at Stamford Bridge.
Sterling, who joined Chelsea from Manchester City in 2022 and has also played for Liverpool, scored twice on Friday.
What Raheem Sterling said
He is currently the joint second-highest goal-scorer in this season’s English Premier League.
“It’s a target I had to set myself – being Chelsea’s top scorer this season. It’s something I know I can do,” said Sterling.
“If I’m 100 percent at something, I know what I can do and that’s what I’m doing this year – just 100 percent focus on scoring goals and helping my team.
“I want to get back to being obsessed with football. Just football 24/7 and nothing else and focus on top performances and goals and assists.”
What Chelsea said about Sterling
New Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino added: “Sterling played with freedom on the pitch. We know what he is capable of.
“We are pleased for him. He needs to keep going and contribute more goals and assists to help the team to win.”
Chelsea ended the 2022-23 English Premier League in 12th position with 11 wins, 11 draws and 16 defeats. Their next EPL fixture will be against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, 2 September 2023.
