New signing Kai Havertz scored in Arsenal’s 5-0 win over Major League Soccer All-Stars in this week’s pre-English Premier League season friendly in Washington, United States of America.
Havertz recently joined Arsenal from Chelsea – and was one of five scorers at Audi Field. The others were Gabriel Jesus, Leandro Trossard, Jorginho and Gabriel Martinelli.
What Mikel Arteta said about Kai Havertz
“Really pleased. Havertz gives us something different with his quality and his height,” said Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta after the match.
“For example, he can be the target man if we need to beat the press. He’s playing at the attacking midfield position for now but I’m sure throughout the season he’ll be used in different positions.”
Arteta on Jurrien Timber
Arsenal have also signed defender Jurrien Timber from Ajax in the Dutch Eredivisie and midfielder Declan Rice ahead of the 2023-24 EPL.
“Timber is a really versatile player. He gives you the capacity to invert and occupy different spaces. He’s so comfortable on the ball in that phase,” added Arteta.
“As well as that, he’s got aggression in the duels and that dynamism which I really like. He is going to be a really important player for us.”
Arteta on Leandro Trossard
Arsenal will meet Manchester United in another friendly in New Jersey, USA, on Saturday. Whether winger Leandro Trossard plays remains in the balance. He is nursing an injury.
“We don’t want to take any risks at this stage. He had some pain and we’ll see how he is tomorrow but I don’t expect it to be anything big,” concluded Arteta.
